Water is the theme of a lot of Mamaroneck glass work, and it is worth taking seriously on anything other than a windshield. Back glass and sunroof panels are bonded in, which means the surrounding channels and drains matter as much as the pane. A moonroof has drain tubes running down the pillars, and if those are blocked the water that gets past the seal ends up inside the car rather than on the road. We clear and check them while the panel is out, because refitting the glass without doing that guarantees a return visit.
Door glass is simpler but not thoughtless. The pane clamps to the regulator, runs in a channel and needs the channel and the weatherstrip to be in decent condition or the new glass will whistle and leak just as the old one did. We look at all of it before fitting. Every pane is ordered against the VIN so the tint, the acoustic layer and any heating element or antenna matches what the car was built with, and both factory-specification and quality aftermarket prices go on the quote. The flooding here is a genuine, recurring problem rather than a once-in-a-decade event, and it changes what we look at. When the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake rivers back up, water reaches cars that were parked perfectly sensibly, and silt ends up in places nobody checks: the sunroof drain tubes, the bottom of the door cavities, the channels the window glass runs in. A car that has been through that and then needs a door glass replaced will often have grit packed in the run channel, which will chew a brand new pane if it is left there. So we clear it out.
