Rye cars come to us for one reason more than any other: the dealer said three weeks. A franchise service department schedules glass around everything else on its calendar, and glass loses. We do nothing but glass, so a windshield is not something we fit between other jobs, and a car booked on Monday is generally finished by Thursday.

It is the freight route between the New York bridges and the Connecticut line, it runs heavy all day, and a stone off a truck at that speed does not make a small mark. The Post Road adds a slower, steadier supply from construction and landscaping traffic that moves constantly through a town with this much property maintenance. Being on the water matters as well. Salt air and winter road salt together work on the glass surface and on wiper rubber, and worn blades drag grit across a windshield until it is finely scored, which is exactly the surface a fresh chip needs to start spreading. Storm limbs off the mature trees along the shorefront streets do the rest.
From downtown Rye, take the Boston Post Road southwest through Mamaroneck and Larchmont and it becomes Main Street in New Rochelle. That is the scenic version and runs fifteen to twenty minutes. The faster one is I-95 south a few exits and back down into downtown New Rochelle. We are on the downtown block of Main Street with metered parking out front and municipal garages a block off. The New Rochelle station is a short walk from the door, so leaving the car and carrying on by train is easy if you commute.
