The cars are newer than average, a good number of them leased on a three-year cycle, and they carry the sensor packages that make a windshield an electronics part rather than a sheet of glass. Rain sensors, acoustic interlayers, humidity sensors at the mirror mount, heads-up displays on the bigger sedans. The owners have usually been told somewhere along the line that only a dealer can touch that, and nobody has ever given them a reason why.
A dealer can, but they will make you wait and charge for the privilege. We order off the VIN so the pane matches the original specification exactly, fit it inside the week, and recalibrate the forward camera in our own bay so nothing gets handed to a second appointment. For a village where plenty of households are counting down to a lease-return date, correct glass on a short calendar is usually the whole decision. Most windshields land between $250 and $450, with ADAS-equipped and luxury panes above that, and we give you that number before the glass is ordered rather than after it is fitted.
Scarsdale is a driving village. There is a compact centre around the Harlem Line station, with Popham Road, East Parkway and Chase Road feeding the village garages, and then several square miles of curving residential roads spreading out through Fox Meadow, Greenacres, Heathcote and Quaker Ridge. Trees are as much of a hazard here as roads. Scarsdale's residential streets run under mature oaks and maples that close over the pavement, and every summer storm and February ice load brings limbs down onto parked cars. Acorns dent hoods and star windshields through the autumn. The Bronx River Parkway supplies the other half: an old, narrow, curving road with low stone bridges and heavy morning traffic that throws stone at anyone following close. Central Park Avenue adds stop-start commercial driving and winter grit. Because so many cars here sit outside overnight on long driveways rather than in garages, they take the full temperature swing, which is what turns a parkway chip into a crack across the glass by the weekend.
Wilmot Road southeast is the direct line from the Quaker Ridge side, and Mamaroneck Road works better if you are starting near Heathcote. Either one drops you into New Rochelle, where North Avenue runs down to Main Street; we are in the 500 block, near the station. Reckon on six miles and fifteen to eighteen minutes. There are meters outside the shop and a garage a block away. Plenty of Scarsdale customers never drive down at all, though. With a driveway that size it is simpler to book the van, and inside our normal range there is no travel charge added on top.

That is close to ideal for us. We need level ground, room to open both front doors and reach along the side of the car, and no second vehicle parked in behind it. A Scarsdale driveway usually gives all three. Leave the keys with whoever is home, or somewhere we can find them, and tell us where the car is sitting when you book the slot.
