A car parked at eight in the morning and untouched until six is the perfect candidate for this work. There is no rush, no meter, no need for anybody to rearrange a schedule, and the drive-away period passes without anyone noticing it. That describes a very large share of the vehicles on the Purchase side of Harrison, between the corporate campuses along Westchester Avenue and the college.
The one thing that has to be settled beforehand is authorisation. Corporate and campus lots generally have someone responsible for what happens in them, and a van working on a car for ninety minutes without anybody having been told tends to get interrupted. We arrange that at booking, not at the barrier. The other consideration is calibration, since cars here skew newer and better equipped. Downtown Harrison works differently from the Purchase side and it is worth saying so. The blocks around Halstead Avenue are tighter, the commuter lots fill by eight and stay full, and while we can work in a station lot with permission, the space beside your car may well be taken by the time we arrive. That is less of a problem in the large open lots north of town, which are the easiest working conditions in our whole coverage area: level tarmac, wide bays, and nobody moving until the end of the day. If you live downtown rather than working in Purchase, the run down I-95 to Main Street takes twelve to fifteen minutes and the bay is usually the simpler answer.
